VANDALISM at FARNINGHAM WOODS

Over the last week Farningham Woods has received a spate of vandalism.

For a while Sevenoaks District Council (SDC) have been trying to stop and discourage illegal 4x4 drivers, quads and motor-bikes from joyriding the woods (which is quite difficult when it has a Byway running through the middle of it). SDC had just paid for and installed a lovely new bit of fencing at Calfstock car park to try and block up one of the entry points for 4x4 vehicles.

On Wednesday 10 March, SDC were informed that this had been ripped down. On inspection, the posts are still in situ but all the rails have been cut out. SDC stacked the damaged rails off the car park and went away to come up with a new plan. Today, Friday 12 March SDC received notification about an abandoned car in the woods. When they arrived at the woods, ALL the fencing around the carpark has been now been vandalised and the fencing leading up towards the pond also cut and a metal field gate missing. The abandoned car is deep into the wood (on FPC side) and SDC have reported all this to the police. The car will be removed as soon as we can, but we need to check if the police need to investigate anything first.
